  • Combo Card Renewal (Pending I-485)

I need some thoughts. My Combo card is expiring 3 months from now and my lawyer is asking me $1250 to renew my combo card without giving me options. My question and concern is, can I file it myself as I am just renewing while I am waiting for my I-48? or do I need to file it with them as I will be needing the form G-28 from their office?

After reading through USCIS website and some forums here, I know that I-765 and I-131 renewal will be free as I have a pending I-485. The problem is, they do have the copy of my receipt notice for my I-485 application. $1250 to renew is just crazy.

No, that is not only outrageous but absolutely unnecessary. Filing for renewal of the I-765/I-131 is really easy. I believe you need a copy of your I-485, though. I do not know if there is a way around that but you should be able to ask your lawyer for a copy of it. I would email them and make an appointment to pick it up. Go to the office and explain the situation. Tell them flat out you do not have $1,250 for this transactions and you are willing to take your chances and file on your own. (It is a simple filing. I did it with my spouse. It turned out just fine)

Do you at least have your receipt numbers? Truth is that everything your lawyer has is YOUR information. They should be able to provide it to you upon your request.

    Best wishes,
