  • Got My EAD, Now What?

Hello Folks, I came to USA on Aug, 2001 on student visa. I am on H-1B since Oct, 2004. My Priority date is June 20, 2007 (which is current for EB-2). I applied for I-485/EAD on October 13th 2011 (2 months back). I got my EAD Approved yesterday. I work for a consulting firm.

    Now, My questions are,
    1) Am I allowed to change jobs now OR Wait till I receive my Green card?

    2) Am I allowed to work on other than my job profile listed in Labor OR wait till I receive my Green Card?

    3) Can I change consulting firm OR It is advisable to wait till I receive Green Card?

    4) If I have to wait till Green card, Can I do all of above the moment I receive Green Card, OR Need to wait for some period (If I need to wait, then how many months?)

    5) What are the next steps, once you get your EAD based on I-485?

    Thanx in Advance,

EAD is not the green card.

You must continue to work for your current employer till at least one year after your get your green card. (OK, technically, you can work for someone else now as long as you get back to your sponsor employer as soon as you get your green card.)

You can do other additional jobs if you like with your newly acquired work permit.
