new to H1

Hi.. I want to change my visa to H1 & i need help.. I am new to H1 stuff.. I would like to know what i need to do to try for H1 jobs. I am a non-IT person with masters from India.. I would like to know can i try for any specialized job based on what i have studied here in u.s, if not do i have to study any IT specified courses and then try.
Secondly, I have heard so much of the fraud consultants around that i m frightened to take any step towards it. If anyone can help me in suggesting good consultants based in u.s who are really really dedicated on H1 stuff..
I am also looking out for more local u.s based consultants in the following states - california, washington state on the west, los angeles . In short shall say the west area in specific.

You need to look for jobs in your field.No you dont have to do any IT courses and stuff.Yes a lot of indian consulting companies are frauds.I have been a victim of one such.Look for jobs in your field in universities, they can do your H1 anytime.
