terminated from employer exp work permit

I was terminated for an expired work permit.
I recently was approved cancellation of removal and received a letter signed by the judge that I was now a permanent resident. I showed my employer and I was still terminated.
Can they do that?

As of the date of termination, if your work permit was in terminated status, your employer has a very valid case.
