Work with I-551 Passport Stamp

Hello everyone!

I'm a little confused about work permits in USA. My wife has applied for a change of status that is almost done: we have the interview next June 24, and we expect to get an I-551 stamp on her passport. If I'm not wrong that serves as a temporary green card, isn't it?

On the other hand she has applied for the advanced parole and employment authorization card, but they both will arrive after the I-485 interview.

So, my questions are:

1. Does the I-551 stamp serves as work permit or is it mandatory to also have the employment authorization card?
2. Is it possible to travel outside USA having the I-551 stamp but still waiting for the advanced parole and employment authorization card?

An I-551 stamp on a valid passport is every bit as good as a plastic green card. It is legit, the real deal, you can use it for travel or establishing work eligibility.

That said, they don't usually give it to you at an Adjustment of Status interview.
