Need to switch Job for Green Card, 2 years 3 months left, stay or go back ?

Hi,

I have been in US since Oct 2011 and went back to India for 5 weeks in between. I now have 2 years and 3 months before H1B expiry.
I need to look for an employer who can file my H1B but not sure if I have enough time to prepare for the interview process

Should I go back and come back prepared for interviews so I can recapture the time ?

My H1B extension is going to be filed this month as it is expiring on 20th Sep 2015.
Is there any risk in going back while the extension is being filed ?
I know I won't be able to come back until I get the extended visa stamped
