  • Fastest way to GC - L1 or H1

    Hi everyone.

I know this is an old debate of which is the fastest way to get a GC, but there are so many recent developments on the visa front, that I don't know how relevant some of the old comparisons are.

So, a brief background about myself. I have about 10 years of work experience. I have traveled to the US on B1 several times. I also have a Masters degree from the US, but at that time I decided to return to India. Now, my current organization is sending me to the US to fill a vacancy there. My wife is a doctor (MD Microbiology) and it is very important to me that she works there. I know doctors have their own problems in foreign countries, but that's a separate issue. She being a microbiologist, there more opportunities for her apart from being a doctor.

So my confusion is in deciding the best visa to go there on.

    H1B:
Pros - Can change employers, minimum assured pay (which right now I believe is $110K), dependent can work
Cons - Takes longer to get GC, dependent can work only if my GC is in process

    L1:
    Pros - don't know
Cons - cannot change employers, dependent can work?, no minimum pay

Am I right in summing up the two options? Again, it is important for me that my wife is able to work there. The reason why I am looking for the quickest route to the GC is because once the GC is got, there is no problems in our ability to work in the US.

Can someone who has been through this process guide me as to what the best option is for my case?

Really appreciate your help! Thanks in advance!
