Born in 1968, birth certificate not available, any alternatives?

I am born in 1968 and my wife in 1971, we both do not have birth certificates, we need to submit the application and documents for Adjustment of Status for Green Card can anyone please let us know what options do we have?

Substitute proof of birth must be used (affidavits, religious documents, school documents). What identity documents did you use to obtain a passport in your country? Afghanistan, as an example, does not normally make birth certificate available to its citizens, but instead use an "identity" document, which is not that reliable. What country are you and wife from?
