About priority date and I-485

Can some body please explain for me what's means priority date.Does it mean the time the labor department received the application filed for labor certificate or the time the labor certificate was approved. And how's priority date comes curent for some body ,so he can file for his I-485.Please some body reply,it's kind of comfusing for me.

Date labor was applied is your PD. PD is also mentioned on your I140. Based on PD, you can apply for the I485. PD comes into picture in many circumstances like a job change involving a new Labor in which case an older approved PD can be ported as well.
