How to find out if your company has started your GC process

I have been working for a small Desi Consulting firm for over a year now. As part of the GC initiation process my company after lot of deliberation said that they had filed for my Labor sometime in Apr 2008. Its been more than 9 months now and every time I ask them for updates they try to avoid and tell me that they do not have any. Couple of months back they gave me a ETA Case File # as proof for my PERM being applied. They also mentioned that there is no online check for this.

Could anyone please let me know if there is any way to find out if my GC has been filed ?

No way to check other than FOIA. Using your case number, file a FOI request. Look up DOL website on how to file Freedom Of Information requests. Once approved, they have to get your signature for filing I140.
