Change positions within company and PERM

I am on H1-B with Labor certification filed but not yet approved and would like to change positions within my company. Occupational classification in the new position is almost same. Can I change positions without doing a new Labor Filing or will I have to start the GC process again from scratch?

As long as you intend to work for the position the GC was applied for AFTER you get the GC, you need not start everything again. GC is for a future position.

e.g. GC is for Engineer II. You can accept a position in sales for a while and resume as Engineer II when/before you get the GC.

Thanks for your reply. Just wanted to add that the new position is similar to the old position but at a different location and I am not planning to move back to the old position. Will the Labor filing made for the old position still be valid or will have to start a new labor for the new position ?
