Is it good practice to start green card process as you start new job

Hi,

I have just started my new job. My employer said that, they are going to start my GC process after 6 months because its not good practice to start it right now.

Is this false or my employer is just making up?

Please provide your input.

There is no such "good practice". GC is for future employment. So an employer can start a petition even before employing you.
