  • Time for printing the Green Card presently

    Hi Folks

My green card has been approved and sent for printing today. The automated indicated that I would receive the green card in 30 days.

I read articles and youtube videos regarding green card printing delays but later it was clarified that there was no furlough of USCIS employees.

I was wondering if anybody have had recently got their I-485 approved and card sent for printing. How long did it take after the card was sent for printing to receiving the card in the mail.

    Regards

    Vinay

There is a backlog in the card printing area.
      Could take 30-60 days
But your letter of approval should take approx 15 days to arrive

        Thanks for the responses.

There have been some announcements of a backlog of 50k green cards since USCIS stopped outsourcing the printing of cards and they did not have staff internally. I am not sure if this is still the issue since the furlough of 14k USCIS employees was revoked.

Will the letter of approval serve as proof of the green card till I receive the card?

No. If you need proof of permanent residency in the meantime, you should call USCIS to get an appointment to get an I-551 stamp.

The approval / welcome notice letter serves as evidence that your greencard has been approved.
You can carry a copy of this letter till you get your greencard in hand.
If you need to travel urgently, you can call USCIS and take an appointment to get an I-551 stamp

I received my I-797C confirmation today. About a week after I got the approval message. 50K backlog doesn't seem like a lot. My guess is that they can easily print up to 10 cards per hour and mail them. So by that estimate it takes about 625 person days assuming they are working 8 hours a day and no holidays. If they have 10 people doing this, then 62 days or 2 months. If they have 1 person doing this, then 2 years lol. But I am sure they have at least 2 or 3 people at each FO. So 30 days seem reasonable.
