  • Received approval notice for 485. Can I start a business or work side gigs now?

I received my 485 approval notice in the mail today (I-797C).
    1. Can I lift restrictions on my SSN now or do I have to wait for the actual card?
    2. Can I start my own business or work side gigs or do I have to wait for the actual card?

I am doing some background work and by the time I start anything, I am probably going to receive my card anyway. But just want to check. I can start driving uber or delivering door dash right away.

    Thanks.

The approval notice can not be used as evidence of work authorization. You are going to have to wait for the green card to arrive.

Correct me if I'm wrong but OP is allowed to work but cannot currently do so given the lack of physical valid documentation.

You must make an appointment at a USCIS field office to get a temporary endorsement of i-551 stamp in your passport

        1. SSA needs the actual card to update records. So you need to wait.
        2. yes, you can do the background but refrain from starting the actual business till you get the greencard. Your permanent residency starts on the approval date of the letter.

Can you not start a business with the EAD already in hand? Certainly you can work side-gigs.
