  • Query on possibility of self-filing for employment based green card

    Hi,
I have completed 1 year on cap-exempt H1b visa sponsored by my current employer. The employer has asked me to explore self filing process for green card and is willing to provide a letter. Majority of my company's employees are PhD holders and are known to self-file for Green card. I have a master's degree only(from US).
    1) Will it be possible to bear the expenses and initiate the application for employment based green card with a private attorney.
    2) If so, what documents will be required from the company for this process and how involved will company need to be.

    Thanks in advance

    1. I cant comment on whether you wil lbe able to afford the cost. Typically attorneys charge anywhere from 3K to 10K for processing GC documents, in addition to the filing fees.
    2. Please lookup EB1A/EB1B categories and figure out what matches for your profile. All information are available online.

I would like to know if it is legally possible for me to file in EB2 Advanced degree category with a private attorney, considering that my company has agreed to provide necessary documentation.
      Thank you in anticipation!

        1. Only you can decide whether you can afford it. Total cost for me was approx. $15k
        2. Yes you can self-petition under EB2 and/or NIW. You'll really need to toot your own horn here and get as many relevant recommendation letters as you can
