Does being a witness of accident affect immigration/travel in and out of US?

While standing in his house balcony on 2 floor my friend leaned back and fell as railing gave away. He was hospitalized for 3 weeks and underwent a serious surgery. I was witness of the same. Now they are filing a suite against the landlord and asked if i could give a statement of what i saw that might prove to be helpful for their case against the landlord or insurance company.
Does my giving any statement affect my immigration background check or has any other legal consequences for me?
