  • OPT, H1-B and Green Card. Best strategy?

I am a Ph.D. candidate and I am about to graduate soon. I currently have an F1 visa. I found a temporary visiting professor position for one year. I am planning to use my OPT for this job. But my OPT is only for 12 months (because of my major), and I am not sure if I can find a permanent job by the time my OPT ends. I can ask the university and make a deal to switch me to H1-B. I do not know if they can apply for H1-B now (if there is a deadline to apply for H1-B and if that deadline is passed for work starting in September 2012), but even if they can apply, the job would still be just for one year.

My question is: I want to apply for Green Card. Which of the following is the best option?
    A) Use OPT for the job. Apply for Green Card immediately. Search for a permanent job towards the end of OPT.
    B) Use OPT for the job. Search for a permanent job towards the end of OPT. If you find a permanent job, then apply for Green Card.
    C) Ask the university to get an H1-B for one year. Even pay for the H1-B if they are not willing to pay for it. Apply for Green Card immediately. Search for a permanent job towards the end of one year.
    D) Ask the university to get an H1-B for one year. Even pay for the H1-B if they are not willing to pay for it. Search for a permanent job towards the end of one year. If you find a permanent job, then apply for Green Card.
    E) Other options?
