Hello Everyone,
My question is in regards to "receiving green card" for U.S citizen's parents.
My parents arrived in U.S 2 days ago as I (Citizen) applied for their immigration ( i-130, AOS, DS230 etc etc). Everything went through fine and this is why there are finally here.
Now, I need to apply for my parent's SSN. I believe SSA will be asking for some documentation as prove of legal status. On my parent's passport there is this stamp IR5, can anyone please tell me if this stamp is enough to apply for SSN until they get their green card?
Also, based on my research, I've found that on the port of entry to U.S., immigrant's passport gets this I-551 stamp which serves as temporary green card for one year. But on my parents' passport they do not have I-551 stamp on it and only stamp that i see is IR5. Can someone please tell me if IR5 stamp can be used to get ssn. I guess the situation boils down to 2 main questions
1. What does immigration require from us in order to send greencard once the beneficiaries arrive in US on immigrant status. ( Do I need to send something to them or they will send us the green card in 1 or 2 months)
2. Until the green card comes, can we apply for SSN based on IR5 stamp on passport or current immigrant status since they don't have I-551 stamp on their passport
Thank you All.
