I 130 ??? Do I need a lawyer, or can I do it alone?

HI, I recently became a US citizen, and would like to apply for a green card for my parents in senegal.

I did speak with a lawyer, but He wants way too much money I don't have, and told me that he has special licenses to do the work.

I don't think he was being truthful. I looked online, and it seems simple applying for the I 130, so I was wondering if others did it alone, and if they don't mind showing me the process.

I gone through it, seems quite complicated. If you are well versed with laws, amendments and other peripherals then do it at own otherwise hire any reputable lawyer. Recently I got shifted to US from NZ, many immigration issues persisted but my lawyer keep me away from the pain. Hoping all will go fine with you!

The I-130 is a strait forward form, once read and understand the I-130 instructions I am sure you will be able to fill it up with no problem. I did that for my wife last year and everything went fine. My advise is do it on your own. Remember you will need to fill up G-325A, I-864, ( DS-230 part I and II if your parents are in Senegal/Consular processing path), address of agent...etc. Don't panic yourself I guess if you pay enough attention everything is doable and will go fine.
