  • F3 - Administrative processing under 221g?

My sisters application filed by my dad in Apr 2002 was approved and interview was scheduled for Aug 24, 2012. Interview went well and the officer told them "Congratulations, your visa is approved. You'll receive passport in 7-8 business days. Guess what, they never received their passports and after several inquiries, she was told it's under "Administrative Processing". December 20, 2012, they got an email to collect their passports from the local office and when they did, it didn't have a visa. Along with passoprt there was a letter saying the same "your file is incomplete and the case is under administrative processing". You'll be notified when the this process is complete.

Additional info - 1 brother and 2 sisters also had an interview around the same time and they all were approved and got their visa. All the interviews were in Bombay Consulate.

Question? Any idea on why this case in administrative processing? How long does it take? Can we do any thing? Is there a possibility of denial? Any one had gone through this issue before and what's the result?

Your help and honest advise is appreciated.

    Thanks.

There's nothing you can do but sit and wait. Neither you nor anyone (Senator/Obama) can speed up AP. AP is the embassy doing additional checks to make sure that everyone up for a visa has a clean background and everything else about the case in AP is according to regulations. You can inquire about said case but that's all you can do.

My sister had gone through AP in NEW DELHI, it took 2.5 months back in 2008, My friend had gone through AP and it took him 4 months in 2011. So just wait and enjoy the moments, Embassy/Consulate office will get back to you once their processing is Done.

            Update on this case -

I found a website where you can now check the status of immigrant or non-immigrant visa. This website says "READY" as of 14-JAN-2013 for my sisters case. It seems to have completed Administrative Processing. We still haven't received anything from the consulate.

What does READY mean? Any idea on what's next? Do we need to send another inquiry? Is it still a waiting game. Please let me know your thoughts.

            Thanks.

'Ready' is relative. It could mean that your petition has been approved and is 'Ready' for the next step. It could mean that NVC is 'Ready' to accept your packet 3 documents. It could mean that you are 'Ready' for the final step as your PD is now current and your interview is scheduled at the embassy.

What you want to see is 'Issued' but that's not possible since your sis' passport and her family's have been returned to her. I hear that checking online for visa status updates is a bit faulty (people status' say issued when is isn't so) so don't rely soley on online updates to know what's going on. If you want accurate updates call the DOS at (202)663-1225.

If I were in your sis' situation I would contact the embassy every 2 weeks to get an update on my case (if there is any).

Thank you Aaydrian for your response. I did call last week at the DOS number (202-663-1225) and they said it's under Administrative Processing, any update will be sent to the applicant (sis).

I'll make sure to call the DOS and embassy every 2 weeks.

I'll update this thread as soon as I hear anything.

                Thanks again.

I checked the status of my sisters case on the website
https://ceac.state.gov/CEAC/ and it still shows "READY". However, the weird thing is that "Status Update Date" changed from January 2013 to March 18, 2013 (todays date).

Any idea on what this means or is it because I called DC (10 days ago) office and inquired about the status which is why the date has been updated?

                  Thanks.

One more question? I see people talking about BAR code. Where and when do you get this? This BAR code is different and there is a website for each consulate where if BAR code is listed, it means your process is waiting on something?

I don't know I'm confused. Your help and response is really appreciated.

                    Thanks.

Any one who knows when the BAR code is assigned or what is BAR code and where can I find one? Also, On the case status website, I see my sisters case status shows multiple statuses. One is READY for 3 months and the date keeps changing. It shows Today's date. Yesterday, it was 4/1.

Any one knows what it all means?

Your honest response is very much appreciated.
