  • Just got notice I am awaiting interview...

Hi Everyone, I have just had an email saying that they have now done all the pre-processing of my case and I have to now await interview. There is a note saying I should arrange a medical as well. I have no idea what the time frame for this might be, when could I usually expect to get an interview date after that email and how quickly should I be arranging a medical? I would be travelling to London from Scotland so am not sure how I go about arranging the medical so it's the same day as the interview or if that's what people do. Does anyone have any experience or ideas of what happens?

    Thanks!

Just got notice I am awaiting interview...

The form I-130 is used to file for an immigrant visa (green cards) but you mentioned that form and an F1 visa (F-1 visas are for full-time students - non-immigrants). F1 visa applications are not completed using the referenced form I-130.
Usually, when you are scheduled for an interview or before you are, the Embassy/Consulate handling your case advises you when, where to have your medical examination completed and what needs to be completed (either before scheduling or after the interview).

In the United States, the F visas are a type of non-immigrant student visa that allows foreigners to pursue education (academic studies and/or language training programs) in the United States. F-1 visas are only issued in U.S. embassies and consulates outside the United States. Prospective F-1 students must apply at the schools and receive a form I-20 in order to apply for an F-1 visa. F-1 students must show that they are able to support themselves during their stay in the U.S., as their opportunities for legal employment are quite limited. F-2 visas are given to dependents of an F-1 student. F-2 visa-holders are prohibited from any form of compensated employment. However, minor children may attend public schools.

Your answer still didn't quite clarify as to whether you're processing for a non-immigrant visa F1 using an I-20 (F-1 visas are for full-time students) or an immigrant visa (that enables you to receive a green card after it's been approved) having filed a form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative.

        Would you please clarify?

Are you referring to the F1 preference category? As deathrow2020 pointed out, the Embassy provides instructions on how to proceed with the application. Usually they’re quite clear in order to avoid confusion. Didn’t the Embassy send any other instructions than just an email?

Sorry It is the 1-130 family 1 preference I meant, it isn't a student visa it is the family based. Basically I just got an email saying they have all the information now and I am to await interview information, what I was wondering was how long it might be before I would get an interview date, do they send one out and is it usually in a short timescale from when you recieve the instruction? I am just trying to work out what to do right now and how much time I might have before hearing about interview and having to attend the interview for timescales etc. Also does anyone know how long you get before you have to move into the country after your visa is issued?

Thanks, sorry for the misunderstanding with the info I gave at first.

So far all I have received is the email, this came on the 9th of January, it never really gave much information other than not to start selling up and planning a move already until I had actually got a visa.

What you received from NVC is packet 3. It's pretty much an invoice to pay your visa fee for further processing and it also request other info eg tax returns, police certificate etc. After you submit what they've asked of you, continue with your life until you get packet 4. Packet 4 is the final packet & you get when it's time for an interview. From my knowledge the time between packet 3 & 4 is 9 months because that's how long immigration thinks it will take for your priority date to be current.

What's your priority date? That's the date your USC parent filed the petition for you. Currently people with a priority date of January 14, 2006 and before are to be interviewed in February 2013

My filing date was May 2006. I got an email in August 2010 requesting more evidence and to pay an $88 dollar fee. Things happened inbetween then and now and I didn't send the information for a while because i wanted to delay my application from coming through... anyway, long story. I sent in the police report November 2012 and paid the final amount so then that's when I've got this email saying that they have all the info now and I've to wait for an interview. Do you think it will be soon or more near the end of the year I'd get it? The reason I want to know is that I was going to go over to usa for a holiday at the end of March and I am wondering if there is any point me going for a holiday if my visa could be here any time soon.

Based on F1 movements it's about 4-6 months until you get an interview letter so you will have to figure out on your own if you want to take this trip or stay put.
