  • Expired green card

    Hello,

I was married to a us citizen and had a conditional green card. Before the two year mark was reached we divorced and I moved out of the US and have not returned since. I left well before my green card expired. My card then expired and I did nothing to try to keep it and don't intend to. I have a couple of questions.
    1. What is my status now under US immigration law?
    2. Do I need to do something to notify the US that I let the green card expire and don't intend to renew or do I automatically get removed from the system as it expires?
    3. Will I have trouble returning to US as a tourist in the future? Will I need to make special Visa arrangements before travelling?
    3. What is my tax status now, I have been out of the US for over a year now and was not at all present in 2012 and out most of 2011.

Hope someone can give me some clarity.

    Regards,
    G

    1. You have no legal status in the US now.
    2. No action required.
    3. Nothing special required. You will just get normal tourist visa.
    4. Non-resident.
