2012 Tax Return

Hello Everyone
I have applied for my wife's petition. Question on the 2012 tax return, my accountant advised me to not file the return until she immigrate to US so that we can file jointly and applied for extension. Now i am hearing from some people that embassy's do ask for the recent return. So please advise me should i file and if i file file it as single or married filing separately since she is not here and has no Social security number. Will the embassy question her why i filed separately. Please share your experience

We were in the same situation. I literally just submitted our package to USCIS and we only included my hubby's 2011 return. We included an explanation that we are waiting for my ITIN (Individual Tax ID Number) before my husband can file 2012 return so that we can file married. I am hoping that it will be ok but worst case scenerio we'll send the 2012 return after my ITIN arrives.
