  • I-130 and consular processing

Hi, I became a LPR last year. I am planning to get married with my fiancé in China soon. It seems that immigration through the I-130 and Consular processing is the only option for us. I am not clear about the process. My questions are:

    1. I don't understand Consular processing well. What are the forms involved? In general, I have no idea what follows or how to proceed after the approval of I-130.

    2. Besides I-130 and Consular Processing, are there any steps in between? On average, how long do I-130, CP, and other steps take, respectively?

    3. She plans to get a B-2VISA before we get married (and before we file I-130). If she visits the US after we get married in China (and after we file I-130) for a short time, will this have any NEGATIVE consequences on our I-130? Can she have multiple entries with that B-2VISA, provided that its all legal? How long is B-2 usually valid for?

    4. After we file I-130, she will not be able to get a new B-2 VISA (after her previous B-2 VISA expires) Is that correct? What should we do for her to come to the U.S.?

We just wanna get married and stay together. So we are thinking about B-2 options during the waiting period of I-130 and consular processing.

    Your answers/suggestions/information are greatly appreciated.

    3. It's OK. B-2 visa is for short visits for tourism.
    4. Correct. Wait for immigrant visa processing.
