  • Police certificate from District Police Office - Is it required?

    Hello -

I am a US Citizen and my wife is in India (Indian citizen). We are currently in the first leg of I-130 and waiting for the I-130 approval notice.

We wanted to clarify the requirements for Police Certificate

Per Immihelp's website, police certificate is required from BOTH passport office and district police office.

However from USCIS' website, police certificate is required from only the passport office.

She will be applying for her police certificate from the Passport Seva Kendra. Is the police certificate from district police office needed as well or just a "good to have" document?

    Thanks for the help.

If the immigrant visa will be processed in applicants home country, the type of police clearance (local, national or none) is driven by State Department guidelines, which are enforced by the National Visa Center or Consular post.

If the visa is combined with Adjustment of Status and done entirely in the U.S., foreign police clearances are not normally requested, though FBI database checks are made after initial Biometrics.
