  • I-864 Affadavit of support - query about Sponsor's income (Part 6)

I am filing a family based immigration I-485 and need to submit I-864 Affidavit of support as well. In Part-6 (Sponsor's income and employment) of the form I need to fill my W-2 tax returns amount of last 3 years. While I had sufficiently high income in 2012 and 2010, I was unemployed throughout 2011 (zero income). I have been employed since 2012.

Would this create any problem in approval? Should I submit anything other than the 1040 filing of these years to make my case stronger (e.g. bank statements). I do not have have another sponsor or co-sponsor and the person who I am sponsoring doesn't have income sources to support the case.

    Please advice?

    Unemployed when filing I-130/I-485

I am in similar situation and looking for advice.

My husband got laid off two weeks before the marriage (!!). He was employed for 7 years with very good income.
We are not too much concerned about this temporary loss of income, as he is an IT professional with skills in good demand and currently is going through the interviewing process.

We would hate to postpone the I-130/I-485 submission until he finds a new jobs for two reasons:
    a) it could take few month to get employed, when I can apply now for AOS and start working too
    b) my child is still abroad and I am planning to take a trip this summer to do the arrangement (like checking him off from the school, selling stuff, etc)

I-864 Part 6. Sponsor's Income and Employment really got us worried.
Will USCIS get hang up on the unemployment status at the time of filing and reject our I-130/I-485 submission on employment/income status basis or they will be checking the status at the time of the interview ?

Any experience sharing and opinions are more than welcome !
