Hi
I am a US citizen living in Texas looking to apply for a green card for my 73 year old mother, who lives in India.
My family circumstances have been a bit unusual for the last 3 months. My mother recently underwent a surgery for removal of a spinal tumor and had been recovering for about a month when my father passed away. She needs quite a bit of home care and physical therapy, since she has restricted mobility. The expectation is her mobility will keep getting better up to a year. And she wont need much medical care besides may be once in a while visits to the urologist.
I have been away for my home/4 yr old kids/job etc in the US for the last 3 and 1/2 months supporting my parents with the medical care etc in India. I am also the only child of my parents. And with my father gone, there is no one else to support my mother physically and attend to her needs at home, take her to her Dr visits etc.
I am going to apply for a US green card for her - but have a couple questions that I hope can be answered on this forum.
- Given the difficult circumstances, is there a way to expedite the green card process. I noticed on the uscis.gov site that there are options like special situtions-> expedited processing and also something called humanitarian parole. Are any of these usable in these circumstances? Does anyone know of such cases being expedited and if so under what category? Does anyone know what kind of documentation needs to be provided with the application for the same?
- Secondly I am looking to understand how/where the applications need to be made from. From what I understand since I am a US citizen living in India, I have to file the I-130 from inside the USA. Once/If the I-130 is granted then I need to bring my mother to the USA. Once she is in the country then I apply for her I485 - is this correct?
- Does any one know what kind of health insurance policy we can purchase once the I130 is granted i.e what kind of insurance policies would be avalaible before the I485 is done, what is avalaible after since she would be a new immigrant.
Thanks
Harsha
