Timeline of petition for Family-Sponsored Preference F4: Brothers and Sisters

Dear All,

Would appreciate if you have any insights on this one:

I am US citizen and submitted I-130, petition for my sister's green card in March 2013. I received a form I797 in April 2013, acknowledging receipt of I-130.

But I have not heard from USCIS since. I was hoping to get a letter, stating something like: your sister is now in the queue for a green card blah blah.

If you have gone through this process and would share with me on what to expect in terms of the steps / timeline, I'd really appreciate it.

As you probably already know, the waiting period for siblings to be eligible for visa quota slots is 12-24 years, depending on applicants' countries.

Normally, the petition will not be a high priority USCIS processing step, given that it is for an over-subscribed quota class. If you received the form I-797 receipt Notice of Action, you can probably expect the petition to be approved (if no additional evidence is requested) and forwarded to the National Visa Center about a year plus a few months after your submittal date.

In the meantime, you should use the receipt number, found on the I-797 form, to check pending processing status
