  • Regarding Family Visa

Approx. 10 years ago, my father had sponsored our petition for immigration. Now, we have received the letter from embassy regarding the final process of immigration. But we don't want to permanently immigrate to America because we are well-settled here now but my family do want to visit America occasionally to meet relatives. Can my family apply for travel visa?

Is there any way we can get travel visa instead of permanent visa?

With a pending immigrant visa procedure in process mode, a visitor visa application has a high probability of denial because of preexisting "intent to immigrate."

My advice is to finish with what was started, come to the U.S. as a test, then decide how you want to proceed.

Is it possible that we ask the embassy to cancel our Family Based Immigration Visa Application then we apply for travel visa?

        Amarinda,

There may be a couple of problems with your suggestion to ask Embassy to cancel your visa application:

        1. The letter you received is probably from the National Visa Center, not the Embassy (check the letter), which means that the Embassy doesn't have your case yet.

        2. If you cancel your visa application (whether it is at the NVC or the Embassy), there is no guarantee that you wil be approved for visitor visas.
