  • approaching 2 year mark...moved but didn't file AR-11/I-865, what to expect?

    Hey Everyone.

I have a conditional gc based on my marriage to a usc. Due to her family situation my spouse had to temporarily relocate to a different state. I have joined her now and we have been at the new place for a few months. We have just realized that we need to notify INS about it and we submitted the AR-11 and I-865. In a few months we will be sending the I-751. Are we in trouble? What to expect?

Submit an online change of address and print out the receipt. Go to: https://egov.uscis.gov/coa/displayCOAForm.do

The I-865, sponsor address change, is less serious, but should be submitted.

You're only in trouble if a Federal agency wants to prosecute you for something and can't find anything else but lack of address change reporting.

It was meant as a joke. The reality, however, is that if you don't meet your legal obligations, you are leaving yourself open to adverse adjudication action if USCIS wants to ding you for something. As an example, not reporting addess changes or carrying your Green Card are both offenses which are punishable by fines or even threatened deportation (both of which are unlikely to happen).
