Filling I-130 Non-Concurrently

Hi guys,

My wife and I mailed our I-130 today to the Chicago lockbox, we could've done it concurrently, but we have to wait on some IRS papers that goes with the "second part", the I-485.
So we decided to do it the two step process, and just file the I-130, to get that moving.

I've taken a look at the current processing times and it's about 5 months. Would the I-130 take 5 months before we could mail the I-485? Or is this time frame for the whole thing (I-485 included), and therefore we could send the second part soon?

Btw, we live in Mass, and I came into the US from Brazil with a student visa(F-1).

Soon as you have the receipt Notice of Action for the I-130, you can proceed with submittal of the I-485 package (when you have all the needed support docs).
