Birth Certificate - Place of birth's name changed

My passport shows place of Birth as 'Pondicherry' while the name of the place changed to 'Puducherry' in 2006. If I get a birth certificate now, it will probably show the new name 'Puducherry'.

Is this a major issue that the place of birth does not match between passport and birth certificate? What can be done so I don't get an RFE?
