    Hello

Now in my application I did not show that I filed any income tax as not working and was filed as dependent in my brother's green card :-/
Now NVC saying write a written letter why you did not file for income tax return.
What should I write? That I filed or I did not filed. Pleaae help

Your statement should be signed and dated, and a paragraph or two should explain why you were not required to file income tax returns (if no income).

but I was filed as a dependent

      Thanks ray for quick response
I was filed as a dependent under my brother , who is sponsoring jointly my spouse too, so technically I am filling the ITR. But its not from my name or something.
What should I do? Should I write a letter explaining that I was filed as dependent

You did not file a tax return. Your brother filed and claimed you as a dependent.
If you had no income, or very little income, that is your reason for not filing an income tax return.

I am thinking to write a letter explaining that I was shown dependent and also did not earn any income that is why did not file any separate income tax return.
          What do you say?
          Thanks for your quick responses

Your being a dependent on someone else's tax return is not the reason you did not file a tax return. You can be a dependent on someone else's tax return and still file, but you just can't claim yourself on your own tax return. Your reason for not filing a tax return is probably because you did not earn sufficient income to be requried to file a tax return. How much income did you earn in 2013?

                I wrote...
I am..., x's wife, sponsoring jointly with my brother, who also supported me during 2013 and filed me as a dependent under his income tax return and also I did not earn any money as I was studying for my exam, thus not required to file a separate income tax return for myself.

I dont know is this the right way to write a letter for an interview...is this???

                  Then your explanation should be:
"I did not file an income tax return for 2013 because I was unemployed and a student for the entire year."

Your brother claiming you as a dependent has nothing to do with your explanation, so don't even mention it.

I did not file Federal Income Tax for 2014 by 04/15. What should I write to the IRS?

                      Hello Ray

There was some emergency circumstance in my family and I got caught up. I didn't file tax until recently. I submitted the 2013 tax return instead and the Tax Extention to NVC. However, they emailed me back and said I need to file 2014 tax (which I did) and a letter that said why I did not file tax for 2014 by 4/15. What should I write?

                      Please let me know,

                      Thanks so much!

You need to respond to the Request for Evidence with exactly what that ask for. The explanatory statement regarding why you did not file a tax return is not necessary if you provide them with the tax return, W2 or 1099 forms, and a new I-864, Affidavit of Support.

So I don't have to write them the letter? would that be ok?

If you provide a tax return copy for the latest tax year, the RFE for a written explanation for why you did not file becomes a moot point.
