Can I travel within the US while waiting for the green card?

I already submitted the form and received the receipt, so I would like to know that can I take a flight to travel within the US while waiting for the green card? My status is "over stayed." so I am really afraid to get deported, if I attempt to take a flight. Thanks in advance.

Actually if you were entered US legally, then you can travel within US while waiting for the green card. I traveled from DCA to LAX to visit my mother in law while i am waiting for interview and no one asked me about that even tho they scanned my passport at the airport! But i asked my attorney to write a letter for me to prove i am in the process.
