Where do I start?

Hello all. Not sure if this is the right section but I do not know where to start.

I am an American citizen living in Canada with my Canadian husband. My family is from NYS and my husband and I have decided we would like to live near them which would mean doing the US process for a green card for him.

I have been up here about 5 years and am a permanent resident of Canada. I have been a SAHM so I have no income. Is it impossible to sponsor my spouse because of this? Would it be easier to go the consular process route? Would he be able to get a work permit before his green card is approved?

What do I need to know about this? Thank you so very much in advance!

You start by submitting an I-130 immigrant petition to USCIS (stateside) for your husband.

After the petition gets approved by USCIS and goes t the National Visa Center, you will have to complete a sponsorship package, even without income, as a primary sponsor. But you will need a U.S.-based co-sponsor to also prepare a sponsorship package.
