  • Renew Green Card - Marriage Based

I got my Greencard through marriage, initially it was for 2 years. I see my Greencard is going to expire in 3 months, can someone please tell me how do i extend my green card and what are the steps. Also would like to know is there any way i can check when i am eligible for US citizen ship. Thanks in advance.

You must submit form I-751 with $590 fee to USCIS to apply for your 10-year Green Card. If still married at 2 years and 9 months from issue date of your first Green Card, you can apply for Naturalization.

On an average how long it takes to get the processing done? Any recommendations on documents. Also what's the earliest that i can apply for renew.

The I-751, Removal of Conditions, average 6-8 months. Naturalization, after the 10-year card is received, average about 6 months.

You must apply for the I-751 in the 90-day period preceding expiration of her 2-year Green Card.

There are no "recommendations" for documents to submit. The form instructions on the USCIS website ( http://www.uscis.gov ) are very clear about document requirements. If you have specific questions about the needed documents feel free to ask.

Thanks. Once I apply to renew, am I allowed to work? How does that work.

When submitting the I-751, to apply for your 10-year card, you automatically receive a one-year extension to your Conditional status. If it takes a year or more before you have the 10-year card, you can get an additional one-year extension to your Conditional status.

I had several clients in Philly whose I-751 processing went beyond a full year and they received second 1-year extension (followed shortly thereafter by interviews and 10-year cards).
