  • Applying for spouse

    Hi there.

I am a US citizen and will be marrying my fiance in Mumbai in December. After our marriage I want to apply for my spouse's permanent residence for the US through a consulate in India. Several questions on this matter:

    1. Is it true I have to spend 2 months in India before I can apply for my spouse GC/Perm. Res. ?

    2. Is the New Delhi US Consulate the only location at which I can apply? Can I apply in Mumbai US Consulate?

    3. If yes to both above, I plan to goto New Delhi with my spouse to submit the I-130. Can I submit the additional forms like Affadavit of Support, Medical Exam, Police Certificate, etc. at the same time or does my spouse have to wait for the interview to submit those documents? I will likely be in the US by the time her interview is scheduled so I need to know what documents I should have prepared.

    4. My spouse lives in Mumbai. Will the interview be held in New Delhi or can it be requested for Mumbai?

I know it's a lot of questions. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks kindly.
