  • Green card docs and birth certificate

    Hello,
I am a US citizen and I am trying to get my mom a green card. I understand they will ask a one point for a birth certificate but I doubt my mom has one. She was born in Iran, then moved a bunch of times, she now has an Italian citizenship .... what should I do if there is no birth certificate?
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Mika,

Your mom needs to provide an original Shenasnameh and a certified English translation.

The Shenasnameh is an Iranian identity document.

IF mom is unable to provide that, she should counter with notarized affidavits from public officials or family friends swearing their personal knowledge of her birth circumstances.

It should be a sworn statement, witnessed by a notary, in which the affiant states his identity, address, relationship to visa applicant, and describes his personal knowledge of the birth, date and location of the visa applicant.

So the witness has to sign the document in front of the notary ? What if they live in another Country?
                Thanks

The person making the sworn statement (affiant) must have his signature witnessed by a person with notarial authority.

Can somebody please tell me what to write SPECIFICALLY, in this statement?
                    Thank you

The statement must identify the writer, name, birthdate, address.

The body should describe what he knows about your birth, when, with whom, and his relationship to your family.

It's not possible to tell you "specifically" what the affiant must write in the statement without more details.
