Hi,
I hope somebody can help me/us. I'm trying to help my mom apply for a green card in the US and so we're applying an I-130 for her. In the form, one of the questions is to supply the beneficiary's Social Security Number. Maybe that's possible for somebody who has been authorized to worked before. But back in 1992, my mom first went to the US as a tourist and her friend accompanied her to the SS office and got her an SSN. My mom said they were able to get one because they weren't too strict then. But she didn't think an SSN was important and forgot about her number. She never even opened the envelope given to her then. After visiting a few years ago, she said they were able to go to an SS office and she was told what her SSN is(though she wasn't given a card). She never worked in the US, only been going there as a tourist. Now I'm worried when we're applying for a family based green card (through an I-130) for her that it will cause problems for her application and for her future ability to go to the US(as a tourist or immigrant).
We tried to see if www.annualcreditreport.com, freecreditreport.com or ssa.gov could create a report for her SSN and thus matching her name, but they can't retrieve a record for that SSN given to her. I'm just trying to make sure that that was a valid SSN, and thus not giving erroneous info on the I-130 or info that may cause adverse effect.
Now, I'd like to ask if being able to have an SSN for her before(as a tourist) would create problems for her green card application or future ability to go to the US?
Please help.
Thanks!
