Good morning,
I would like to sponsor my son to immigrate to the USA and have a few questions regarding the timeframe before I start my application, hopefully I can receive some advice from you.
I am a 65 year old married woman, currently holds US green card but will be applying for US citizenship in one year. My son is 33 years old, unmarried, currently living in Auckland and holds NZ Green Card and will be applying for NZ citizenship in a year. My son was born in Viet Nam. All of our family members are currently in the US, including my husband and my daughter who is married. My daughter is working and will be able to sponsor my son financially, although I am still the one legally sponsoring him.
Here are my questions:
1) Should I start the application now while holding the GC, or should I wait till the US citizenship is obtained?
2) What is the approximate timeframe from start of the application to when my son can come to the US?
3) Is it true that sponsoring a person who holds NZ citizenship is faster than sponsoring a person who holds Vietnamese citizenship?
4) While waiting for the GC, can my son visit me in the US and how long can he stay? Also can he work in the US while waiting for the GC? I understand he does not need to obtain a tourist visa as he hold NZ citizenship.
5) We are thinking of opening a restaurant in US and when my son comes over he will be the manager of the restaurant...my friend mentioned I may be able to sponsor him as an employee which may be faster than sponsoring an unmarried child. He has intensive background in running restaurant in NZ. Could you give me some feedback on this?
I hope to hear back from you soon and appreciate any feedback I can get.
Thank you and have a great day.
Minh
