  • After GC don't stay in US

    Hi Senior members,

Once I have GC in hand and wish to not stay in US like I have a good job offered in UAE then how can I handle this situation. My wife is a US citizen and she asked to take this opportunity and get GC on priority. Now I am worried if I don't live in US after having GC then what will happen?

Do they cancel my residency? and if they do then how can I apply again?

I hope there will ways to handle this situation. One more thing, it is not like we don't want to live in US but the opportunity I have in UAE is excellent and may be after 3 years we will go back to US again.

    Seeking your help and advice.

Apply for a Reentry Permit ( form I-131) before you leave, and that will allow you to stay out of the U.S. for up to two years without loss of your Green Card status.

      Ray,
Thank you for a helpful answer. I am glad to have this wonderful way.
But one more thing, like how many times I can apply for i-131. For example if I re-enter within 2 years and leave again after a month or two then is it possible to file i-131 again.

Generally, others have reported two Reentry Permits, back to back, without any particular problems. The third I-131, however, may be issued or restricted to one year on a discretionary basis.
