  • Processing Time in Dallas, TX for my parents green card

I live in Dallas TX and applied for my parents green card from Dallas, TX. I mailed I-130 for my parents in June of 2014. After they completed there medical exam they applied for I-485 (Adjustment of status) in August of 2014 using I-130 receipt number. We did not wait for the approval for I-130. Here are timeline of events

    - I-130 (Priority Date) June 3, 2014 and (Received Date) June 3, 2014
    - I-485 (Priority Date) June 3, 2014 and (Received Date) August 5, 2014
    - Bio-metric screening interview completed on August 25th, 2014
    - Online status for I-485 says as of September 4th, 2014, Case Is Ready To Be Scheduled For An Interview
    - Online status for I-130 says as of September 8th, 2014 Case Was Received At my Local Office

I am trying to find out:

    - Approx. how much longer will it take to receive an interview date for my parents interview? There file is processed at Dallas local office.
    - Which month is Dallas office processing green card for parents currently?
    - Since I sent I-130 earlier than I-485, will I receive I-130 approval separately?
    - How do I know that I-130 is approved? Will I be notified when it is approved?
    - Is my parents case considered as concurrent filing?
    - Will USCIS consider June 3 as filing date for I-485 or is it August 7th?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Are your parents still here in the US?

Yes. They are in US. They now need to travel to India due to a family emergency. Also they have to file taxes and handle their financial investments that are maturing in March. They have an approved I-131 and would like to know answers to the questions on my original post...so they can plan accordingly.

      Thanks.

so your parents case is considered filing concurrently/adjustment of status....
why don"t you try to call USCIS for follow ups? then travel back to home country using approved AP document after you hear reply from USCIS....

Update on my parents GC processing - Dallas TX

After a long wait, on March 13th at 7 am I received USCIS auto txt notification that my parents interview was cancelled. I had not received any interview date letter so was confused how their interview was cancelled. I immediately set up an info pass with the Dallas local office. After few months of trial and error I finally realized on March 13th that if you try to log on info pass early in the morning (before 9 am) then you have a better luck with getting an info pass appointment.

I got appt with the local on March 27th. On March 14th I finally received my parents original interview letter. Their appt was scheduled for April 16th. Interview letter was dated March 9th which on March 13th USCIS cancelled it. I called national benefits office the same day (on the 13th) to ask the reason for the cancellation and they said to contact the local office. We waited until March 27th and we asked the local office for the reason but, they could not give us any details and said to call the national benefits office. Go figure....

Anyways, we asked the officer to confirm if the file was at the local office and should we still come for the interview on the 16th. The officer was nice and helpful in this regards. She confirmed that file was received on feb 5th and I-130 and I-485 files were consolidated and together. It is in the queue to be assigned an officer. Nothing can be set until an officer is assigned. We questioned why it has been sitting for a month without any action taken on it. We requested if they can expedited it as we were beyond the normal processing time. She sent an email to the back clerk to look at our file and set it up for an interview as soon as possible. She said they cannot guarantee anything. We should receive a rescheduled interview date from the Dallas office within 60 to 90 days.

I was not giving up. I waited for a week and on April 6th called the national benefits office. I asked to talk to tier 2 folks who are actually the USCIS officer and have a little more access to the system. Tier 2 officer told us the reason interview was cancelled because the file was not received in the Dallas office until April 4th. I informed her that we went to the local office and local officer said it was received feb 5th so something is not right. She said she will send a note to the local office as to why they are taking so long to set up interview and that we should receive a response within a week. I also asked her if she can request the local office to keep the same date April 16th as our interview date. Next day, on April 7th we received a rescheduled interview date of April 24th from the local office. Letter was dated April 4th. On April 10th we received the response letter to my April 6th call from the local office and it said to come for the interview on April 16th (as set originally). This letter was dated April 8th.

We went on April 16th prepared for the interview but, not sure if we will be interviewed. We were not called at our scheduled time however after a long wait and checking twice with the front desk person we were called in. Interview went smoothly. Officer went over the demographic info and confirmed the docs and dates. At the end she said she is behind in her files and will review the file in depth and then make her decision within a week. We should receive decision along with the card in 3 to 4 weeks.

System shows interview is completed and file is being reviewed. Now we are waiting for the final decision. Overall our experience with GC process in Dallas has not been very smooth. It takes longer in the Dallas to process GC for parents as compared to some other cities in TX or even other states.
