  • US re-entry from US virgin Islands

    Hello everyone,

I am seeking your advice about a situation. I filed for a family-based green card. I entered the US on a B1 tourist visa and filed my papers last January. It is on a pending status right now. My question here is that im traveling to US Virgin Islands on my honeymoon. I still have the visa page to US on my passport but i exceeded the allowed time i could be in the states on my I-94. Can i enter US Virgin Islands and re-enter the United states with no problems. Plz let me know.

The US. Virgin Islands are considered part of the U.S. It is highly probable, however, that you may face an Immigration document review when boarding a plane from the Virgin Island to the U.S. That has been my experience when leaving Puerto Rico by plane back to Miami.

      Thanks Rayb,
This immigration document review, what is needed for that? How long does it take? Is it complicated?

The immigration check is just a document or visual check of people who don't look like they belong or done randomly. In my case, once from Mexico, a Mexican-American niece was asked to respond to a routine question so the officer could tell by her accent (she was 8 years old). When returning form Puerto Rico, my Mexican-American daughter went through the same drill by being asked to answer so the officer could hear her natural speech. With Adults, it would be a check of documents. Since someone coming from Puerto Rico would not be requried to have a U.S. passport, other identification would be looked at, or a Green Card or foreign passport might be reviewed for legitimacy.

But when coming back from BC, Canada, the American Border Patrol guy was downright obnoxious when seeing my Asian wife and mixed son (about 15 years old), by saying..."Who are these people?"
