How muc htime doe it take to get Green Card ?

My husband is on L-1B visa, valid for 3 yrs. His employer is applying for Green Card (GC) & H-1 B this year.

1) How much time will it take for the GC process to get through ? His colleagues say it is 10-12 years for Asians. Does it really take that long ?
2) When can I expect GC EAD for myself ? Is it only after the GC process is complete or after a few months/years of applying for GC ?
