  • Widow getting married

    Hi,
I am 31 years old widow from Pakistan. I am getting married to a US citizen man. I have following concern that I want to highlight in thus forum so others can help me accordingly.

    1. While submitting documents do I need to change my ex husband's name on passport? My all documents have my ex husband name and the same is following in my kids documents.

For example; if I change my husband's name then my kids will be in trouble. I will face difficulties to prove that my husband and kids father was a same man.

It is OK if your documents have your late husbands name. USCIS will understand that the documents were prepared when your late husband was alive. Don't hide or try to change any facts. And Don't worry too much about it.

I assume that you had kids with your late husband.

      Thanks

Thank you for your answer Dhira. Yes these two kida are from my late husband. May I ask where are you from? Because I have heard that every country has different criteria regarding papers / documents. Here in Pakistan our official marriage document is nikkah nama which is in native language "Urdu" then it leads to marriage certificate that is in English. These two official documents will be enough to prove marriage. Won't they ask why I have my late husband's name in the passport?

        Awaiting for your reply.

He is right, it should not matter what last name you currently have since that is currently your one and only legal name.
They may ask extra questions about your previous marriage but dont be worried it shouldnt be somethin you wont be able to answer.
You dont need to make changes on anything now but when you do marry the US citizen you're going to take his last name anyway...

Marriage certificate to your last husband is going to be necessary to prove why you have his last name i think since you also have to submit your birth certificate, you may also have to prove his death you cant just he died.

            Widow getting married

Have been married for almost 2 years and I still have my ex husbands name because of my son , so no it doesn't matter if you change your last name or not. These days some people don't do that.
