I am a US citizen married to an Indian citizen for 8 years and living in India. I had gone to the USCIS in Delhi to file for a green card for my husband on January 25th 2015. They had told us that the processing time for the application will be 6 to 8 weeks. They had given us no receipt number whatsoever. They did give me a receipt for the payment that I had made with a demand draft.
I had written to them asking them for a receipt number/case number so that I can track status online but they had replied saying "Please be advised that the case is pending under administrative processing and this office will keep you informed regarding any further development on your case."
The 8 weeks is getting over this week. Can someone advise me on what I should do regarding being able to track status online? Can my husband work in the US on a temporary visa (he has a valid B1) till the green card gets processed?
