Marrying a green card holder who herself got green card through marriage

Hi friends, I am 31 year old male. Recently my parents introduced me to the daughter of their friends. This girl is half an year elder then myself but physically she looks smaller then me. The girl has recently got divorced from her abusive marriage of 10 years and her green card is by the virtue of that marriage. If I marry her would I be able to get green card and work and live in US. Some one told me that she can only sponsor me after getting citizenship, is this correct? Thanks in advance.

Your new wife can petition you, but cannot adjust your status for about 20 months while she continues to be a Green Card holder.
