  • is there a requirement for i864 when using DCF(Direct Consular Filing)

    Hi,

My then girlfriend, and now wife and I have been living in Accra for over four years. We recently decided to file i-130 and realized we were eligible for Direct Consular Filing. We are also expected our first child and would like to have moved before her due date in August. I would like to know whether we have to file i-864 once the i-130 is approved, i ask because she has not lived or worked in the US since 2011. We have enough resources to cater for our expenses (an apartment, etc). I also noticed while going through the forums on i-864 and i-864a,i-864ez (if you could clarify the use of those forms) there was a lot of reference to members of households being co-sponsors. Can somebody who is not a member of your household also be a co-sponsor?

You need to submit an I-864 to your Embassy before or at your interview (depends on the DCF procedure used at your local U.S. Embassy).

Your sponsorship, from your or from a co-sponsor must include proof of income from the U.S.
