  • Divorce & greencard

    Hey everyone,

I'm a foreign national, married in good faith for 17 years, legally separated since October last year looking to get divorced. I'm curious what that would do to my status here? The marriage was in good faith, aside from our 17 y/o daughter who I have custody of there's plenty more to prove that. What is the likelihood of the divorce affecting my status or eventual, GC renewal or citizenship application? Due to the financial **** kicking I got from lawyers, income reduction, alimony and her not helping with our daughter it might be a bit before I can afford to get my citizenship, most likely it would happen after the divorce.

    Thanks

The biggest 'fact' of your good faith is you both being together for a long time and having a child together.
USCIS, knows that not all marriages, works forever, so to speak, your biggest hurdles are in the proof of your reason or reasons for divorce. Once you have made your case, you will have no problem renewing your green card or applying for your citizenship.
    Good luck!!!
