  • Applying for I-130 but no birth certificates

    Hello,

I am a U.S. Citizen (naturalized about 7 years ago) and would like to invite my family members (parents and two siblings) from Korea and help them attain Green Card.

However, my siblings and I were all born in small clinics (in a rural town), which are no longer around, and cannot obtain birth certificates. I have obtained the certificate of family relationship from the Mayor's office, but am not sure whether that would be sufficient. The document itself is in Korean.

Please let me know if you have any advice.

    Thank you.

    James

When you adjusted your status, many years ago, was your birth certificate requested by USCIS?
If all you can get is a certificate of relationship, from the Mayor's, then that's better, (with a notarized letter of explanation) than having nothing.
I'm just wondering, if you visit and try to acquire sworn statements from persons who knew about, each person's birth....where by they could try to get a birth certificate, now, even though there weren't any in the past. Good luck!!
